Twin Baby Registry Must-Haves: What You Actually Need for Twins

Twin Baby Registry Must-Haves: What You Actually Need for Twins

This post may contain affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. As a twin mom and former educator, I only share products I truly find helpful and use in our everyday life.

If you just found out you’re having twins, first of all, congratulations! I remember staring at a blank registry page feeling completely overwhelmed, and I want you to know that is completely normal.

I’m a twin mom. My twins are now three, and I spent the better part of my pregnancy researching what we’d actually need, talking to other twin parents, and once the babies arrived, figuring out pretty quickly what was worth it and what wasn’t. This list is everything I’d put on a registry if I were doing it again.

The good news: you don’t need to buy everything in duplicate, and you definitely don’t need everything marketed to twin parents. Here’s what actually made our lives easier, and what I wish I’d skipped.

A few things before we dive in:

  • Ask around. If you have a community of moms nearby, reach out. Someone may have twin-specific products they’re done with and happy to pass along. Twin mom Facebook groups are especially great for this.
  • Consider resale shops. For big-ticket items you’re not sure about, buying secondhand (when it’s safe to do so) is a smart way to try something without the full investment.
  • Not everything needs to be bought twice. Throughout this post I’ll call out what I got one of versus two of so you can plan your budget.

Feeding Essentials for Twins

Feeding twins is one of the biggest learning curves in the early days. Whether you’re nursing, pumping, formula feeding, or doing a mix of all three, having the right tools makes an enormous difference.

Twin Z Pillow

The Twin Z Pillow is my number one twin product recommendation for feeding. It completely changed feeding in our house. I could nurse or bottle-feed both babies at the same time, which sounds impossible until you’ve done it. It also doubles as a safe lounging spot when you need to put both babies down for a second. My arms were saved during so many long feeding sessions because of this pillow.

Some twin moms swear by the Table for Two as their feeding pillow instead. I had one, tried it, and personally preferred the Twin Z. It felt easier to move around and more comfortable for me. But I know plenty of moms who love the Table for Two, so it’s worth knowing both options exist. See my “Things I’d Skip” section for more of my honest take.

Dr. Brown’s Bottles

We used Dr. Brown’s bottles from the beginning and I’d recommend them to any twin parent. With two babies, you go through a lot of bottles, so finding one that works early matters. That said, every baby is different, so if yours take to a different brand, go with that.

Dr. Brown’s Bottle Sterilizer

This was a game-changer. With twins, you’re running through so many bottles that a sterilizer that also dries them is essential. I loved not having to deal with bottles sitting wet on the drying rack. It sterilized and dried them all in one step.

Double Bottle Warmer

If you’re using breast milk or formula, a double bottle warmer means you can warm two bottles at once and feed both babies at the same time. For twins, this isn’t a luxury. It’s genuinely a sanity-saver.

Baby Brezza Formula Maker

If you’re formula feeding, the Baby Brezza is absolutely vital. It makes a perfectly mixed, ready-to-go bottle in seconds. With two hungry babies, the time it saves is genuinely priceless. Just make sure to clean it regularly, since it needs to be maintained properly to ensure it’s dispensing the right amount of formula every time.

Burp Cloths

With twins, you will go through burp cloths at a rate that feels almost impossible until you’re living it. Stock up. We loved the Comfy Cubs muslin washcloths. They’re soft, absorbent, they wash well, and they come in a big multipack which is exactly what you need for two babies.

Pacifiers

We went through two different pacifiers at different stages, and both worked really well. In the newborn phase, we loved the Philips Avent Soothie. It’s the one many hospitals actually send you home with, so babies tend to take to it easily. As the twins got a little older, we transitioned to the Itzy Ritzy Natural Rubber pacifiers, which are a great next step and have a more traditional shape that older babies tend to prefer.

Sleep Essentials for Twins

Sleep is the thing every twin parent obsesses over and the thing no one fully prepares you for. Getting two babies on any kind of schedule in the early weeks is hard, and I won’t pretend otherwise. What I can tell you is that having the right setup made a real difference for us. The products in this section are the ones that supported better sleep for our twins and, eventually, for us.

Double Bassinet

If you plan on keeping your babies in your room for the first few months (which most pediatricians recommend), you’ll need a double bassinet. The double is so helpful because you’re not choosing which baby gets the spot next to you, they both do. Having them close means you’re not trekking to the nursery for every feeding or middle-of-the-night check. It also gives you somewhere to set one baby down on whatever floor you’re spending most of your time on during the day, which matters more than you’d think in those early weeks.

SwaddleMe Swaddles

Swaddles are essential in the newborn phase for helping babies feel secure and sleep longer stretches. I liked the SwaddleMe swaddles. They’re easy to use even in the middle of the night when you’re half asleep, and they stay put.

Merlin Magic Sleep Suit

The Merlin sleep suit was a lifesaver during the transition out of swaddles. When babies start breaking free but aren’t quite ready for a regular sleep sack, this is the bridge that actually works. We loved it.

Kyte Sleep Sacks

Once our twins were ready for sleep sacks, we used the Kite brand and loved them. They’re well-made, easy to put on, and come in beautiful prints. A staple for the sleep sack phase.

Nanit Baby Monitor

I cannot recommend the Nanit strongly enough. It is, without exaggeration, the best baby product I have ever purchased. We have used it every single day, multiple times a day, from the day our twins came home until now, when they are three years old. The video quality, the sleep tracking, the peace of mind it gives you being able to check on two babies at once. It’s worth every penny.

Hatch Sound Machine

A white noise machine is non-negotiable for any baby’s nursery, and the Hatch is the one to get. You can control it from your phone (huge for not waking sleeping babies), set routines, and use it as a night light. We are still using ours daily.

Diapering Essentials for Twins

You will change an almost unbelievable number of diapers with twins. Setting yourself up with organized, efficient diapering stations (ideally one per floor) makes it so much less chaotic.

Changing Pad / Changing Basket

I used a woven changing basket with bassinet covers over it, which I loved for the aesthetic. Changing the cover takes about two seconds, which matters when you’re doing it multiple times a day. If you prefer something easier to clean, the Keekaroo Peanut Changer is the wipe-clean option. It’s solid foam with no fabric at all, so you just wipe it down. A lot of my mom friends swore by it.

Diaper Pail

I had two diaper pails (one downstairs at our main changing station and one in the nursery) and I tried both the Diaper Genie and the Dekor Eco Plus 2. Honest comparison: the Dekor held more diapers, smelled slightly better in my experience, and was easier to empty (you just tear off the bag inside vs. the Genie’s process). That said, the Diaper Genie is a solid, well-known choice and nothing wrong with it. Either works. I just slightly preferred the Dekor after using both.

Diaper Caddy

A diaper caddy is one of those things that sounds optional but quickly becomes essential. I had one upstairs and one downstairs, each stocked with diapers, extra wipes, spit-up cloths, diaper cream, and a diaper spatula. Look for one with handles so you can easily move it around. I love a neutral, aesthetically pleasing one you won’t mind having out in the open.

Diaper Cream

Two creams I kept in every caddy: Desitin for everyday prevention and protection, and Triple Paste when we were dealing with an actual rash. Triple Paste is thicker and more intensive, so it’s worth having on hand for when you need it.

Gear That Makes Life Easier With Twins

This is the section with the big-ticket items, the ones that genuinely change what your day-to-day looks like with two babies. Some of these are investments, but the ones I’ve included are ones I used constantly and would buy again without hesitation.

Double Stroller

The Zoe double stroller is the one I reach for every time we go somewhere that requires getting in and out of the car. It folds up easily, it’s lightweight, and it fits in a trunk without a wrestling match. I used it for everything: errands, travel, quick outings, and I still love it. We also have the UPPAbaby Vista, which we use for longer neighborhood walks. Both are great for different reasons.

Budget note: The Zoe (~$400) is the save pick. It’s lighter, more compact, and great for travel and errands. The UPPAbaby Vista (~$1,100) is the splurge. You get a smoother ride, more accessories, and it grows with your family. If budget is tight, the Zoe alone is genuinely all you need.

Baby Carriers

For twins, having a good carrier is essential. You will always be holding at least one baby, and having your hands free even part of the time is a lifeline.

For wearing one baby at a time, especially around the house in the newborn phase, I loved the Solly Baby wrap. It’s incredibly soft and comfortable, and having that hands-free option when you’re also managing a second baby makes a real difference.

For carrying both babies at once, the TwinGo Air is the carrier I’d actually buy if I were doing it again. One baby on the front, one on the back, and it separates into two individual carriers so each parent can wear one when you’re out together. Really well thought out for twins specifically.

UPPAbaby MamaRoo Swing

Getting at least one swing for twins is really important, ideally two. We had two MamaRoo swings (now made by UPPAbaby after they acquired the brand) and they were incredible. Swings give you somewhere to put a baby who needs to be soothed when you’re already holding the other one.

Budget note: The MamaRoo (~$300 each) is a splurge, but swings are one of those things where having two feels non-negotiable in the early months. If two MamaRoos isn’t in the budget, consider one MamaRoo and one less expensive swing. Having two different options can also be useful since not every baby loves the same motion.

Baby Lounger

We had two baby loungers and used them constantly. Having a snug spot to set one baby down while you’re holding the other is genuinely essential with twins. The Snuggle Me Organic is what I recommend. It’s soft, portable, great for supervised lounging and tummy time, and many twin moms love it. As with any lounger, always follow safe sleep guidelines and never use for unsupervised sleep.

→ View on Amazon: Snuggle Me Organic Lounger

BabyBjorn Bouncers

The BabyBjorn bouncers became increasingly essential as the twins got a little older. They’re lightweight, easy to move from room to room, and babies genuinely love them. We had two, one from our registry and one we found secondhand, which I’d recommend as a great way to get a second without the full price. That said, even one goes a long way.

Inglesina Fast Table Chair

Two kids means two high chairs, and standard high chairs take up a lot of floor space. The Inglesinas clip directly onto the edge of a counter or table and are an absolute game-changer for smaller spaces. We use ours on our kitchen island. They’re easy to clean, compact to store, aesthetically pleasing, and I’ve seen parents take them to restaurants too. If you have the room for a traditional high chair, the Lalo high chair is a beautiful, well-made option worth considering.

Baby Bath Seat

For the early months, one baby tub is fine since you’re bathing them one at a time anyway. Once the twins could sit up, we moved to bath seats in the regular tub so we could do both at the same time, which was a huge time-saver. These non-slip seats with suction cups work great for babies from about 6 to 24 months.

Car Seats for Twins

Car seats deserve their own section because they’re one of the most researched purchases any parent makes, and with twins, you’re buying two of everything, so getting it right matters even more. Here’s what we used and loved at different stages.

UPPAbaby Aria V2 Infant Car Seat

The Aria V2 is under 6 pounds, which is a genuine game-changer when you’re carrying two infant seats at once. It’s also compatible with the UPPAbaby Vista stroller, so if you’re going that route, it snaps right in. Lightweight infant seats are one of those things you don’t fully appreciate until you’re lugging two of them through a parking lot.

Evenflo Slim 360 Convertible Car Seat

When the twins grew out of infant seats, we switched to the Evenflo Slim 360 and I cannot recommend it enough. It rotates 360 degrees, so buckling and unbuckling two kids is so much easier on your back. The slim fit works even with bucket seats, it grows with the kids, and it’s machine washable, which with toddlers is not optional. We use our car seats every single day and a little ease getting two kids in and out is absolutely worth it.

Things I Would Skip

Honest twin mom take: not everything marketed to parents of multiples is worth it. Here’s what I’d leave off the registry:

Table for Two Feeding Pillow

The Table for Two is a twin feeding pillow that a lot of parents swear by, and I want to be fair, because many twin moms truly love it. But for me personally, I found it cumbersome and less flexible than the Twin Z. The Twin Z was easier to move around, more comfortable, and worked better for how I was feeding. If you have a community of twin moms, ask around. You might be able to borrow or try one before committing to the price.

→ Table for Two (if you want to compare)

Baby Tracking Apps / Devices (Like the Tally Trackers)

We tried the Tally one-touch trackers for logging feedings and diaper changes, and I found them more hassle than they were worth. Between managing two babies, the tracking felt like one more thing to keep up with rather than something that actually helped. Skip it and just use a simple notes app if you need to track anything.

→ Tally tracker (skip it!)

Quick-Reference Checklist

Here’s everything I recommend, all in one place:

Feeding

Sleep

Diapering

Gear

Car Seats

One last thing: every twin experience is different. What worked beautifully for my family might not be the right fit for yours, and that’s okay. The first few months with twins are hard no matter what products you have. But having the right gear in place, the things that actually solve a real problem, does make a difference. I hope this list gives you a solid starting point and one less thing to stress about before your babies arrive.
